		<description>What you say makes sense, but it is hard to be the first one on the block with a new technology only to see a dozen competitors come along and use your concept before you can even monetize it. The only way to make any money is to advertise (since you can't patent and then license the concept), and advertisement requires eyeballs, so there is a strong incentive to keep those eyeballs on YOUR product.

However, you will say that a rising tide raises all boats and the only way this tide can rise is if it can be widely adopted and become mainstream, which requires an open platform.  Still, you gotta feel their angst.</description>
